David Geffen Hall Opening Gala (Wed. 10/26)

The New York Philharmonic invited the Juilliard Preparatory Division chorus to participate in their David Geffen Hall Opening Gala! We sang Make Our Garden Grow with Renée Fleming and Brian Stokes Mitchell as soloists, the NYPhil orchestra, and the NYPhil chorus. Wow, the newly renovated hall was beautiful, and it’s crazy that my name is on the NYPhil program!

Special thanks to NYPhil and the Juilliard School administration who put together this wonderful opportunity.

NYSSMA Call-for-Creators Results

The New York State School Music Association announced the Call-for-Creators winners!

“With only 75 minutes for the entire Young Composers Concert, our judges could only select 11 compositions out of the 100+ pieces submitted. With so many submissions this year, the decisions were very difficult for the judges to reach. It is important to remember that there were many outstanding compositions which were not included in the program.”

I am very honored to be one of the winners, and I can’t wait to hear Frome at the NYSSMA Winer Conference!

American Voices concert

Celebrating American Life and Culture, the Tuckahoe Middle and High School performed the American Voices concert! Turkey Trot was featured! This is my composition that was inspired by Benjamin Franklin’s quote and written after extensive research of turkey calls. (I never knew there were so many different kinds of calls.)

“Bald Eagle...is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly...[he] is too lazy to fish for himself. [While a turkey is] a much more respectable Bird, and withal a true original Native of America...He is besides, though a little vain & silly, a Bird of Courage.”

NYO-USA 2022

I can still remember vividly when I got to play with NYO2 a few summers ago at their event open to anyone who wanted to join. It was such an amazing experience that I hoped to return to the community. Well, this summer I will get to write music for the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America as one of the two apprentice composers!
