MAUP #11 Concert

I organized MAUP’s 4th holiday concert and executed it on December 18, 2019, in the Fountains at RiverVue assisted living facility in Tuckahoe. Music Around Us Project, which was founded by me as a 6th grader in 2016, was born from an assignment called “Artist as Citizen” in the Juilliard School Music Advancement Program. This assignment called for an interactive performance or presentation in public to spread the importance of classical music.

For MAUP’s 11th concert, I decided to play with my friends as a small strings orchestra to bring school concerts to the senior citizens who are not able to freely go out to enjoy live performances. I carefully de the selection of pieces and the order to play them in for the seniors. For example, we played the James Bond theme first to warm them up with a well-known piece of music that they are also familiar with, and ended with the energizing John Williams Trilogy with themes from Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Indiana Jones. I also thought it was a good idea to exclude the Schindler’s Theme, which is a very beautiful piece but not the best for the environment we played in…
