Holiday Concerts (December 2019)
December is always such a busy month, with concerts filling up the calendar!
12/10- Tuckahoe High School strings Cinemagic! concert
With the theme being film scores, we played some well-known tunes from movies we all love. I was asked to transcribe Falling Slowly for us to play, so I listened to the beautiful song by Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova many times and wrote out the guitar, voice, and strings part. Look, my name is on the program above Beethoven’s! I also got the opportunity to play not just as the concert master, but as the soloist for one of the pieces, Theme from Schindler’s List. I am thankful for the amazing experience of playing one of my favorite composers’ piece in front of an orchestra.
12/14 - Juilliard MAP chorus concert
It was so much fun singing in the beautiful church with our amazing conductor, Mr. Hassan Anderson!
12/18 - MAUP (Music Around Us Project) #11 self-organized concert
With the THS 9th grade advanced strings members and Mr. Charles duChateau, our school teacher and conductor, I visited the Fountains at RiverVue assisted living facility in our town and played a selection of pieces from the successful school strings concert on Dec. 10th. This was Music Around Us Project’s 11th concert at the facility, where I organize concerts and draw program covers.
More on MAUP, coming soon…
12/19 - THS band & chorus concert
I played violin for the opening song with Vocal Cats, played the hammond organ in Jazz Band with a fun solo improv moment during Blues Shuffle, sang in the THS Chorus with an eight-second duet moment with another singer, and played the hammond organ again in the THS Concert Band. Phew, busy night! It was exciting to play in the jazz band and to sing in front of a mic as one of the soloists for the first time.
The holiday season is filled with music and happiness.
Happy holidays and a happy new year! 🎊
