Playing in Maxim Vengerov's Master Class
On Nov. 10, 2024 at Carnegie Hall’s Resnick Education Wing, world-class violinist Maxim Vengerov held a master class on Mozart’s violin concertos no. 3 and 5. I was invited to play in the accompanying orchestra! With five hours of rehearsal and three hours of the master class performance, the two days of being back in NYC and hearing Vengerov’s voice and violin in person were incredible.
Interestingly, it was basically a conducting lesson as Vengerov emphasized the importance of body language as a soloist and the imagining of the orchestra on your back, constantly being aware of the players behind you and leading them through your music making.
