MAUP #17

In honor of Black History Month and the fight against discrimination and systemic racism and oppression, Music Around Us Project put together its 17th event, Ukulele: A Life-changing Adventure in Zambia. It features the story of my friend’s 9-day trip to Zambia in the summer of 2019. Learning about and understanding new cultures help humanity break down the barriers that are not yet extinguished in the world. MAUP #17 concludes with a ukulele concert with a few solo performances and an arrangement of How Far I’ll Go that I made for six ukuleles, since music is a language that binds us together no matter what race, gender, background, and ethnicities identify us.

The MAUP #17 video will be shared with the 3rd graders as their feature country during the spring months, and with the 5th graders who learn ukulele at the W.E. Cottle school. MAUP hopes that the young students can take something away from the presentation. Special thanks to diversity club director Mrs. Ferguson and music teacher Mrs. Kim!
